Try This Simple Cost of Living Calculator Before Your Next Move
Thinking about a move to a new place can be a really exciting time! A move to a new state or even across a state can take a lot of planning. Whether you're moving to the Tampa Bay area or leaving for a new place to live, don't forget to consider differences in the cost of living while you're researching your next place to call home.
This easy-to-use cost of living calculator from Payscale.com can be a great place to start before you make a move! Just click below to go directly to the calculator and plug in your current location and the one you're moving to (as shown in the example below). This tool will give you an idea of whether you'll need to earn more or if it's easier to live on a little less in the new location you're thinking about moving to.
Another factor to consider when planning a move to a new state is if your paycheck will change even if your pay rate or salary isn't changing. Many states have different tax laws that can affect your final take home pay. For instance, you'd likely see an increase in your take-home pay if you moved from California to Florida with no change in your base salary, because Florida has NO STATE INCOME TAX. Residents only pay federal income tax in Florida. Vice versa, you'd likely see a decrease in your take-home pay if you moved from a state like Florida to a state like California or Virginia since those states do have a state income tax for residents in addition to the federal income taxes collected.
Curious what your current paycheck may look like in another location?
